KFC has launched the Zero Chicken Burger in Singapore, the first Southeast Asia country to get it, and it is available for a limited time.
The burger patties are mycoprotein meat-free but are still made with the brand’s famous Colonel Sanders’ eleven herbs and spices and top off with lettuce, sliced cheese, BBQ sauce and mayonnaise sandwiched between sesame seed buns.
Although the patty is vegan, the KFC Zero Chicken Burger is neither vegan nor vegetarian as the mayonnaise used is not vegan and the patty is also fried in the same oil as some chicken products.
According to Juliana Lim, senior director of marketing and food innovation at KFC Singapore, the company sees a trend towards flexitarianism and increased demand for meat alternative products, and hence they wanted to offer a meat-free option.
The KFC Zero Chicken Burger is priced at SGD6.55, and is available for a limited time and in limited quantity for dine-in, takeaway and delivery at all outlets except Singapore Polytechnic and the Singapore Zoo.
